Functional Mechanism

Under wheel loading, unreinforced granular layers transmit concentrated stresses directly into the subgrade. Geogrid reinforcement creates lateral confinement, increasing interlock and distributing stresses horizontally.

This confinement increases composite modulus, reduces vertical strain, and improves long-term pavement stiffness.
